National Night Out is a nationwide effort to make communities safer by building and strengthening relationships among neighbors. Strong neighborhoods help us become more resilient and improve our ability to recover after a disaster.

Plan your gathering for anytime between 5 and 9 p.m. Aug. 2. No event is too small. Event sizes may range from just a few neighbors to 100 people or more. Gather for a potluck, cookout, or just a meet and greet. To host a National Night Out party in your neighborhood, register online at bayareane.ws/3PDv1Hi.

The city of Berkley’s series of free summer movie nights in Berkeley parks kicked off in June. This eight-movie series through Sept. 23 visits different parks around the city and reaches neighborhoods from north to south, the flatlands to the hills.

Each movie will be shown on a large portable 20-by-12-foot inflatable movie screen with premium audio-visual movie equipment for outdoor cinemas. Bring friends, join neighbors and revel in some of the gems of Berkeley: our parks. For the schedule of movies and more details, go to bayareane.ws/berksummerfilms.
